Oats Affair: How to make tasty oats meal every day?

Oats, my favourite breakfast food. Ironically now, everything with oats – I will love it!

I was often told about how oats were boring, plain and tasteless food. But I bet to differ that! Oats is one of the most versatile food in the world. From soften overnight oats, oat milk, oat cookies, oat loaf, granola, oat smoothie bowl, baked oat cake and the list goes on! I will be sharing some of my favourite recipes and show how to make tasty oats breakfast everyday!

Eating well doesn’t mean tasteless food, that is my philosophy. Thinking back, I wonder when I started enjoying oats so much. I guess it was the time when overnight oats are trending a few years back, pretty jars and oats photos are everywhere on the Internet. Being a recipe hunter – I sourced for many healthy, interesting and ‘look-yummy-kind’ of oats breakfast recipes and immediately, oats became my staple food for breakfast. A healthy and hearty breakfast within minutes, why not?

1. Overnight Oats

For overnight oats, I start with the 3 most basic ingredients;

  1. Rolled Oat Flakes
  2. Greek Yoghurt
  3. Unsweetened Soy Milk (or any milk of your choice)

First, place oat flakes in a glass container and pour in milk till the brim that covers. Then, mix in desired amount of yoghurt to thicken up texture – it depends on the amount of oat flakes used. Leave them in the fridge overnight or at least 4 hours to soften oats. That’s it! Before serving them, do add in your favourite toppings. I like adding chia seeds, flax seeds, coconut flakes, cocoa nibs, nuts, nut butters and fruits! Banana, blueberries, strawberries and kiwis are fruits most commonly used in my recipes. Depending on availability, it is wise to switch around fruits that are in season by doing so you will only get the freshest and they probably cost lesser.

Blueberries, Coconut flakes, Chia Seeds and Strawberries

The choices of ingredients used plays a huge role for a good breakfast. I use greek yoghurt and unsweetened soy milk for it’s high protein and low-fat content as compared to sweetened flavoured yoghurt/milk which contain added sugar. By doing so, I can reduce my sugar and calorie intake yet still enjoy the perfect oats breakfast with my favourite fruits and nuts! Do also note that overnight oats should be consumed within 3 days of making as to maintain freshness of oats, yoghurt and milk.

Read more on : Greek Yoghurt vs. Regular Yoghurt

This breakfast choice save me much time before the mad morning rush everyday. Digging in to a cold hearty breakfast packed with fiber, vitamins, proteins and nutrients which does not require cooking at all. How amazing is that! Also, have fun playing around with portion sizes as it took me a while on varying the amount of oats, milk and yoghurt to finally getting my favourite combination. Ahh…..My perfect post-workout fuel ♡

What else can you do with Oats?

2. Yoghurt Fruit Parfait – Layers and more layers! That’s how a parfait looks like. Using almost similar ingredients in the overnight oats recipe substracting the milk, parfait contain more fruits than oats! Good to go as a mid-afternoon snack, simply layer your favourite fruits, toppings, yoghurt, honey and oat flakes. Repeat steps. That’s it!

3. Oat Milk Drink oats! Blending my own Oat Milk bring ease as it is free from added additives or preservatives. Naturally sweet and energy boosting, oat milk seems to be a great post-workout drink replenishing carbohydrates, minerals and protein lost during exercise. Moreover, it’s so simple to do!

(Recipe can be found on my previous post: Homemade Oat Milk)

10614324_10152438483532746_7140086137043875159_n4. Oat Smoothie Bowl – My “throw-in-everything and blend” breakfast! Days when I am too lazy to chew my food, oat smoothie bowl is my best friend. Place all the ingredients (usually fruits, milk, vegetables and oats) into the blender and blend it high for 30 to 60 seconds until smooth and top it with your choice of toppings.

(Recipes can be found on my previous post: Kale Smoothie Oat Bowl and Pumpkin and Banana Smoothie Oat Bowl)

5. Cooked Oatmeal with Egg – When mum is not home and my fridge went into a famine. Protein loading is not impossible and all you need is oat flakes and an egg! Boil oat flakes for about 8 – 10 minutes and crack an egg and stir together. Optional, add extra honey or nut butter to it for a more flavourful taste! Simplicity is sometimes a good thing afterall as this is one of the most cost-friendly recipe around!

6. Healthy Oatmeal Banana Bread – My favourite homemade bread in the world! With zero sugar and only natural ingredients, it’s absolutely healthy and filling! Homemade bread are chunkier comparing to conventional packaged bread which is not filling and contain many food colourings, preservatives and other addictives that I can’t even pronouce. Moreover, it is not that difficult afterall. Try it!

7. Baked Oats with Banana and Raisins – With it’s name, this is basically oats baked with fruits, dried fruits and egg! Baked oats tastes like oat pie, which is crispy on the outside, moist and chewy on the inside. Best served with honey or pair it with a cup of coffee during tea break!

(Recipe can be found on: Stayfitandtravel: Homemade Banana and Cranberry Baked Oats)10898121_10152698926042746_3721092541210432994_n

Oatmeals are never boring. All it takes is a little effort and preparation for a wholesome healthy breakfast. Anyhow better than a greasy buttery bun at the confectionary or the fried bee-hoon from the coffeshop. Studies shown that eating oats keeps you full longer as soluble fiber in oatmeal absorbs a considerable amount of water which significantly slows down your digestive process. Moreover, oatmeal contains a wide array of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and is a good source of protein, complex carbohydrates and iron.

Treat your body better by starting your day with this nutritional superstar! Enjoy! ♥

Shopping at NTUC FairPrice during this festive season warms my heart as I rekindle my yearly family affair shopping around with my parents for our Lunar New Year goodies! From those crispy love letters, flavorful pineapple tarts and tidbits! As a kid, I used to rush to the candies shelve first when we reach the entrance of NTUC FairPrice. My sister and I would go about grabbing our favourite candies and my pick will be the milky and creamy White Rabbit Sweets! Don’t you miss peeling the “wax paper” around it? It would be a great pick for your guests to indulge during their CNY visiting!

For every Lunar New Year, we enjoy inviting relatives and friends over to our place to play some card games, chit-chatting and eating together. My family love gatherings most. Simple time of togetherness is so precious and joyful. Even preparing the food on the table seems pleasant and fun as everyone plays a role from getting the plates, washing, cooking and serving! During Lunar New Year, how could one miss out sumptuous food?!

In Singapore, the festive season will not be complete without “Pen Cai” (盆菜) also known as “poon choy” in Cantonese or “Big Bowl Feast”. This festive dish symbolises prosperity and abundance! With my favourite pick – Skylight Imperial Banquet Abalone Treasure Pot! Everything in a pot, heat and serve! I love putting in extra scallops, abalones and mushrooms! This dish is so easy to prepare and super delicious!

I LOVE STEAMBOAT! This list of products below are my usual buys as I am a huge fan of steamboat! Basically, I love everything in soup be it clear chicken or tomyam broth. Getting excited for reunion dinner already! I look forward to my Shrimp Wantons, Okaido Premium Scallops, Fresh Prawns & Fish and Frozen Pork Collar Shabu Shabu!

Wonder why steamboat is an ideal meal for CNY?

  • First, it is so easy to prepare! Hence anyone can host a fail-proof, yummy meal.
  •  A steamboat can serve a few people (e.g. 2) or as many people (like 20) as you like simply by adjusting the quantity of ingredients.

Not forgetting the most important part of Lunar New Year is the Prosperity Toss also known as “Lo Hei” is a Teochew-style raw fish salad which usually consists of strips of raw, shredded vegetables and a variety of sauces and condiments, among other ingredients. Yusheng literally means “raw fish” but since “fish (鱼)” is commonly conflated with its homophone “abundance (余)”, Yúshēng (鱼生) is interpreted as a homophone for Yúshēng (余升) meaning an increase in abundance. Therefore, yusheng is considered a symbol of abundance, prosperity and vigor. Today, Lo Hei is a common practice during Chinese New Year in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Let’s all HUAT!

Shopping at the nearest NTUC FairPrice brings more joy as compared to clothes shopping. Serious! I love nourishing and indulging in good food and I believe NTUC FairPrice is my best provider for a great range and fresh food supplies at affordable prices. Strategically located in every part of Singapore, making groceries shopping a happier and convenient experience for all! ♡

My favourite breakfast recipes

Who else agree that breakfast is the best meal of the day?! Well, I do! I love breakfast most and look forward to them every time I finish my morning workout session. I vary my breakfast choices from oatmeal, fruit/tofu/oat smoothies, eggs toast, and nut butter spread on whole-grains and fruits salad. Also, I get much inspiration from my Ig feeds from people like @stayfitandtravel@funkyfitnessfoods and many other health foodie gurus! It is always interesting to try out a new breakfast recipe and totally get hooked on it. By doing so, I expand my knowledge on healthy eating and learn to prepare healthy food for my subsequent meals as well.

Do you know the benefits of eating breakfast?

1. Energy Boost to Start the Day

Everyone should start their day off right by eating as many vitamins and other nutrients as possible. The great thing about breakfast is there are so many common breakfast foods that can be considered super-foods because of their nutrition value:

  • Eggs: Including an egg or two for breakfast may require a few extra minutes of preparation time, but the potential health benefits make them worth cooking and eating. Not only are eggs packed with protein and amino acids, they are also one of the few, significant sources of vitamin D, which is important for absorbing calcium for stronger bones.
  • Whole grains: Whether you are taking them in the form of bread, cereal or oatmeal, breakfast is one of the best times to enjoy whole grains in your meal. This super-food is a great source of fiber, which is essential for a healthy heart and digestive tract, and can help reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
  • Vitamin C: You can hit your daily intake of vitamin C in your very first meal of the day, whether it’s in the form of a juice or solid fruit. Oranges, grapefruits and apples are common fruits on the breakfast table.

2. Breakfast Helps Reduce Morning Crankiness

Imagine going without food for 8 to 12 hours during the day; you probably won’t be the most approachable person in the office or classroom. Do yourself, your classmates and your co-workers a favor by eating breakfast to help you deal with any morning moodiness and stress.

3. Metabolism Boost

When you sleep, your metabolism tends to slow down. The only way to jump start your metabolism for the day is to start off right with a healthy breakfast. This will allow your body to start burning through calories from the very beginning of the day, rather than in the middle of it after you’ve eaten lunch.

My recent breakfast try-outs;

1. Pumpkin and Banana Smoothie Oat Bowl (Inspired from @stayfitandtravel)

  • 1 Slice of Pumpkin (Steamed and puree)
  • 1 Frozen Banana
  • 3/4 cup of Rolled Oats
  • 1 cup of Almond Milk

  • Chia Seeds
  • Banana Slices
  • Dried fruits

Place all the ingredients into the blender and blend it high for 30 to 60 seconds until smooth. Pour pumpkin smoothie mix into a bowl and top it with your choice of toppings. This must be one of my favourite recipes – it is really simple and easy to make!

2. Overnight oats topped with Organic Almond Butter, Rock Melon and Cocoa Nibs

  • 3/4 cup of Rolled Oats
  • 4 tablespoon of Greek Yoghurt
  • 1 cup of Oat Milk or any milk of your desired choice
  • Honey (Optional)

  • Homemade Almond Butter
  • Rock Melon, diced
  • Chia Seeds
  • Raw Unsweetened Cocoa Nibs

Place all the ingredients into a jar/bowl and mixed them thoroughly. Add in homemade almond butter (otherwise, any other nut butter), chia seeds and cocoa nibs together. Close lid and leave it in fridge overnight. Rolled oats should be soft after soaking in milk and yoghurt (at least for 4 hours). Topped the overnight oats with fresh fruits of your choices and enjoy!

I usually prepare oiaj – oats in a jar, the night before consuming them. As leaving them in the fridge overnight will soften oats further. This breakfast choice save me much time before the mad morning rush everyday. Do also play around with the portions, it took me a lot on varying the amount of oats, milk, yoghurt and fruits to finally getting my favourite combination. I also use Greek yoghurt for it’s high protein and low fat content as compared to sweetened flavoured yoghurts which is full of sugars. A cold yet hearty healthy breakfast packed with fiber, vitamins and nutrients in a jar which does not require cooking at all. How amazing!

*Do also note that overnight oats should be consumed within 3 days of making as to maintain freshness of oats and milk.*

I hope you enjoy these recipes as much as I do! ♡

Working out and eating well

I think I found my life passion and that is fitness. As I progressively work on my body, I have seen many positive changes and how I love being soaked in sweat after a tough workout. Pushing further though it seems impossible to do so, and achieving what I previously thought I wouldn’t at all. Lifting that dumbbell or dropping for another push up doesn’t seems as easy as it possibly would after some kick-ass resistance circuits. Seriously, the start was never easy.

I don’t know how to explain this feeling of mine but I thought the sense of achievement and empowerment from working out is not what money can bring about, but something stronger mentally. The mind is the trigger point of an empowered person, vice versa, a lazy person. People often say they have no time because they are busy with work/family/friends/self, but who’s not? We all need to prioritize what is most important to us. If health is, then why not work harder and eat better?

Another point to note is that fitness is not just about working out but also eating well. Proper nourishment for the body is essential and in fact, more important than exercising.

Do you know the 70/30 rule?

70% – Food and 30% – Exercise. This also means that no amount of exercise can ever make up for a poor diet. The truth is that no matter how many times in a week you have exercised, it will all count for absolutely nothing if you are not paying attention to your diet. The only way to lose flab is to reduce intake for fat, oil, salt and sugar. In return, to fuel our body with fresh vegetables, fruits and lean protein source. This is because you cannot convert fat into muscle or vice-versa. Therefore doing stomach exercises without changing your diet may well make your stomach look bigger as you could be building some muscles underneath the fat. (Read more)

Personally, I am reducing my frequency eating out and preparing my own meals as much as possible. Meal preparation is definitely not an easy task as it is time consuming and troublesome. But it will be worth it as I know what kind of food is going into my body – No MSG, Less or No Sodium, Less or No Oil lastly, Clean Produce (Washed Vegetables, Fresh Meat). Having control of the taste, cooking method and enjoying the process of nourishment. I love cooking too! Heh.

Step-by-Step for Meal Preparation (My kind of menu)

  1. Stock up on food source
  • Protein – Eggs, Tofu, Chicken Breast Meat, Lean Beef, Lean Pork, Fish (Salmon, Tuna, Cod, Threadfin), Seafood (Prawn)
  • Dairy/Non-Dairy – Oat/Soy/Rice Milk, Skim Milk, Chocolate Milk, Low Fat Yoghurt
  • Green Vegetables – Broccoli, Cauliflower, Lady Fingers, Spinach, any kind will do
  • Fruits – Tomato, Apples, Avocado, Berries, Banana, Grapes, Kiwi, Melons, Pineapple, Pears
  • Spices – Black Pepper, Sea Salt, Garlic, Onions (my favourite!)
  • Fats – Nuts (Almonds, Brazil Nuts, Macadamia), Nut Butter, Olive Oil, Canola Oil
  • Carbohydrates – Rolled Oats, Museli, Brown Rice, Red Rice, White Rice, Whole Grain Bread, Wholemeal Pasta, Sweet Potatoes, Pumpkin, Corn, Vermicelli, Mee Sua.

(Some of my breakfast photos)1924731_10152527708712746_3173290777297229456_n10464296_10152544185272746_4763243704541580535_n10624829_10152436106167746_5224175178760239460_n

Have a mixture of food source and study your portion size. I usually have a mix of everything in my meals. A typical day of breakfast – Overnight Oats with fruits or nuts topping/ Blended juice or smoothie, lunch will be vegetables fish noodle soup or tuna sandwiches, Dinner will be steamed salmon, stir fry vegetables and egg.

Snack-in-between: Handful of Nuts/ Fruit/ Cup of Milk

  1. Cooking Method:
  • Boiling
  • Steaming (My favourite method, hassle free and easy to clean!)
  • Stir-frying
  • Roasting

Decide on your favourite recipe and try them! Do reduce the usage of oil, salt, seasonings and sugar. Throw in some healthy spices instead of heavily sodium loaded seasonings, which better enhance the taste with added nutrition!

  1. Serve them! Otherwise, place them into a container and fridge them for tomorrow’s consumption.

Healthy food can taste great too! Banish that wrongful mindset about healthy food being bland and tasteless. By changing your mindset, you are allowing yourself to accept good food – leading to a better nourished body. Do you really need SO MUCH junk food? Really?

Great things never came from comfort zones, it will only come if you get up from that snooze alarm to work out, choose the right food, give it a 101% and be consistent. It will be a painstakingly journey but it is all going to be worth it! Do it for yourself, cause no one can ever do it for you.

POSB PAssion Run for Kids 2014

10624853_683863025043558_8680549216182989858_nPhoto taken by: Run Society Facebook

This was the first time I joined in for POSB PAssion Run for Kids! The race route was great and it wasn’t too squeezy as the participants for the 10km Run (Male and Female) was limited. Unlike the usual marathons we went for with sweats drip body contact and slowing speed progression due to congested participants on road.

The main focus was not on us definitely, but the kids’ dash and other activities held that morning. The funds rose over the marathon and donations goes to POSB PAssion Kids Fund, whose aim was to support children in the community through different programmes in Singapore. It is part of the People’s Association Community Development Fund (PACDF), a registered charity under the Charities Act.

Over the past 2 years, POSB PAssion Kids Fund has reached out to more than 70,000 children in 33 programmes in Singapore.

Some notable projects that POSB PAssion Kids Fund has supported include:

  • Project We Care Free Kicks Programme with Central CDC for underprivileged kids with talent in soccer to hone their skills and self confidence through training by Real Madrid Foundation
  • Young Savers Programme with North East CDC to inculcate the virtue of saving in children through workshops
  • KidzLearn with South West CDC to prepare underprivileged preschoolers academically and socially for Primary One education

10419541_10152435843247746_4140632187181960751_nIt was such a meaningful race for me as I was doing what I love most and at the same time contributing to the society. A perfect start to Sunday morning! In addition, the goodie bag given to us was awesome too! Heh. Runners are entitled to a shoe bag, plastic water bottle, lots of snacks and other sports related goodies!

15411_10152436297512746_474279248497878178_nThat’s us after the completion of the race! Satisfied and awesome workout! I love joining marathons as it always allows me to reflect and push myself to the limit.

As you harbor the intention of giving up also known as walking, you will realize that is giving up (unless your body condition doesn’t permit so). You will see runners picking up their paces, trying harder to jog instead of walking and making completion do-able! Marathons always taught me how to preserve on, no matter how tired those legs’ muscles were and how sweaty that tee-shirt is. Refreshing my mind on how fitness came about to me and how I started with running as my favourite activity.

The reward for running ain’t about medal, but the running satisfaction and determination for the race. One can always stop by and walk, but a runner will pull up all his/her effort to complete the race, running.

“You’re crazy” – A runner’s favourite compliment

Alive Museum

Went to Alive Museum with W on our off day last week! The newly opened 10,000 square feet of 3D interactive art wow-ed us, as we snapped nearly 300 photos on our camera! W is such a poser, he can almost relate to every picture and start doing all sorts of different poses -.-

Anyways, Alive Museum was first opened in 2009 as South Korea’s first original 3D visual illusion museum; it claims to be the world’s largest chain of this concept where 2D art comes to live. To sum up, we spend about 1.5 hours in the museum with continuous photo taking. It was pretty common to have similar poses as everyone else in the museum, but I think the joy of it will be fun taking the photos and laughing away. It will be a great place if you love taking photos, like I do.

I will recommend;

  • To go during off peak days/hours, like Tuesday 2-5pm, so that you wouldn’t get “photo-bomb” here and there while you are posing with those 3D art work.
  • Go with a small group of 2-4, otherwise it will be really difficult to coordinate the photo taking together.
  • Be sure to go to the toilet before you enter the museum as the ticket only allows one time entry and there is no toilet located within the museum.
  • Stand at the right photo point and angle to achieve the most realistic looking photos
  • Bring your own camera! As the harsh lighting in the museum does not portray the idealistic photo ambience and would not turn out well on phones-cameras.
  • For girls, do not wear a skirt as it will be really inconvenient for photo-taking whilst lying down on the floor or jumping on the trampoline.

Shape Run 2014

Hurray! This is the second year joining Shape Run with Bell and Windie. Shape Run had been an annual affair for us to bond together. Joining marathons together brings out the running spirit from runner to runner and the motivation for race completion. I love working out with the girls as there is a drive for us to push each other further than our usual self. Anyways, I had a swollen shin last 2 weeks before the race day due to a bad fall down the stairs. Therefore, no training was done in between the last 2 weeks from race day and I could not do my best for this race 😦 Boo

1924378_10152374743042746_3242441004994086946_n10527737_10152374740752746_7066149471411087205_n10346600_10152374740892746_2076703949966311154_n10404167_10152374741407746_7667133021168308968_n10559715_10152374741837746_7599535280704079830_n10481168_10152374740777746_4014657589491825708_nHowever this year, we felt that the organizing team for Shape Run 2014 did not match up with their usual standards. Though we still enjoy the items in the goodie bags and extremely love the striking pink race tee! It was much better than last year’s orange.  But to a certain extent, on race day itself many to-dos was fallen short and many runners like me felt disappointed with the whole event.

First and foremost, the main essential necessity for a marathon will be the water points. Inadequate hydration is one of the main reasons that Shape Run 2014 fell short for. I do not want to elaborate on the consequences of dehydration, but to emphasize on the need for water in between a race. Honestly, we just want water. Why was it so difficult to set up a larger table for the water point station and hire more people to pour drinks instead of runners snatching paper cups and bottles just for that few sip?! There were even online feedbacks mentioning about some runners experiencing cramps due to the insufficient hydration during the 10km race!

Even whilst crossing the finishing mark, we were like lost souls. There were absolutely no proper instructions on how we could just get our water, finisher tee and runner’s medal. We started forming 4 queues as long as a 1 hour wait each. The queue for the finisher tee was chaotic, as there were neither pull up signage nor dividers to separate runners of different sizes. It was a total waste of time. Can you imagine the long wait with the thirst for water? How pathetic.

This overall experience marks one of the worst marathons I have joined in, so far. I felt that the organizing team for Shape Run 2014 was not as fantastic as last year. Still, I enjoyed the companionship of my girls and the striking pink race tee from Sketchers was awesome! Thankfully, those celebrities hunks were around for photo-taking. Feeling slightly compensated though. Heh.

Sundown Marathon 2014

1526701_10152211396322746_8832768134603916558_nCompleting the 21.1 kilometers marathon is one of my best achievement in 2014; despite the swelling kneecap before the race and wet weather during the 14 km mark. Despite all, I think pure determination conquers all. I did complete my race.

It was my second 21.1km race with Sundown Marathon. Knowing that I’m not a long distance runner by nature, 21.1km was the furthest distance I have done till date. During my usual runs, I would probably jog about 5km -10km depending on my body condition or if I am doing other cardio workout like skipping, etc. 8707_10152215708222746_947718186887619147_nLet us take a selfie first, before race starts! This year, with Peter and Christina!

Sundown Marathon Singapore brings out night running and stood out from other marathons that took place in the morning. It was the nation’s first night marathon in 2008, and had reach 30,000 runners till date, making it Asia’s largest night marathon. This year with a new theme: BRING ON THE NIGHT.

With three race categories – 10 km, half marathon and full marathon – Sundown Marathon gives runners the chance to step out of our comfort zone and challenged us on running through the night without a wink.

All runners getting ready to race.

10436356_10152215707552746_2636067758941458558_n Running around the CBD area brings the best scenic night of Singapore and makes running more pleasant. Enjoying the view, the breeze and the race.10411314_10152215707517746_1917888685354393779_nOne of the happiest moment was to cross the 20km mark. 10338286_10152215707467746_5321235243078844660_nChallenging myself to another 21.1km race wasn’t easy, it was another level for my fitness attainment. Due to my injured right knee, I abstained myself from running too fast as it felt as though it would give way anytime. The night rain that stayed away during the start came by during my 14km mark. Leaving us all soak and drench in water & sweat. Ah.. That feeling. The temperature was cooler than usual and obviously, most runners slowed down due to wet floor. Moreover, my tracking application shows that we ran more than the stimulated race distance too.

Overall, my race timing was not my ideal and I thought I could have done better. Perhaps due to the swollen knee and the lack of long distance training. Running long distance was not my forte, but I  would definitely try to brush the timing up for next year’s Sundown.

10341875_10152220728312746_8433444279794940568_nHave you ever wonder how far 21.1km is? Before my race, I never knew how much this distance was a turmoil to me. After some research, this distance was almost equivalent to 230 football fields and the distance from Singapore to Johor Bahru. Wow.

Along the race, came to meet up with Kent running just beside me. Haven’t seen him for the longest time and glad he is doing well now.
10382735_10152215706892746_4628703983616567136_nAfter completing the race, we can’t stop taking selfies together! Nana, my favourite running partner and I am so proud of her for completing her first half marathon this year! It must be one of the greatest running achievement for her and I am glad to play a part in this. 10407972_10152215707302746_4978489667807737184_n10440278_10152215706787746_7243419587827685389_n

Running brings life. The sense of accomplishment is never going to be enough, runners will yearn for more, in terms of self-confidence and accomplishment. Came across this web on why everyone should do a marathon, and that every reason touches how I felt. Just RUN ♡

私は日本が大好き(Part 3 & 4)

1904126_10152030065622746_2114952416_nHello snow! Today will be an exciting start off as we depart to Mount Fuji! One of the favourite attractions in the world! And for me, a strike off that bucket list finally. Mount Fuji, also known as富士山 Fujisan is located on Honshu Island and is one of the highest mountains in Japan at 3,776.24m.

1924797_10152030064107746_1076672854_n1779171_10152030065467746_1092067423_n1010980_10152030066897746_562434035_n1508068_10152030065947746_804661036_nStill, because of the snow and wet floor, we conquered the 1st Station of Mount Fuji only. It would be dangerous and slippery to travel up to Mount Fuji during snowy weather, the best  month to climb Mount Fuji will be July and August. During these two months the mountain is usually free of snow and the weather is relatively mild. Experiencing the snow and going up to Mount Fuji seems unbelievable still, till now.

The perfect cool weather allows Mount Fuji to stand out and was visible from every corner nearby, especially at Gotemba Premium Outlet Shopping. Gotemba Premium Outlet Shopping carries big labels and one of the flagship center, situated within view of World Cultural Heritage site, Mount Fuji. I bought Helio Pole green boots and GAP navy green jacket! They were in such a great deal and couldn’t resist buying them within minutes of trying. Heh! Indeed, a shopping haven.1604396_10152030073837746_891978547_n1625621_10152030071437746_237965835_n1622011_10152030058637746_286517575_n1620587_10152030069232746_206245365_n

Lunch time! We went to Oshino Hakkai also known as 忍野八海, a small village in the Fuji Five Lake region. They sell food like Mount Fuji tofu and crab roll, super interesting and yummy! We also had a simple udon set for lunch, slurping up a piping hot bowl of soup is one of the best thing ever in such a cold weather! Yummy tummies!

Followed on, we took a bus to Nagoya for BBQ dinner (didn’t have photos as we were too famished)! We visited Nagoya TV Tower and Oasis 21, it seems like Nagoya’s very own “Tokyo Tower”.  That’s about for Day 3, a short yet fulfilling day! (Image credits: Google)

Morning Kyoto! We arrived in Kyoto town after a 2 hours bus journey and our 1st station of the day will be Kiyomizu Temple, also known as Kiyomizudera or 清水 (literally “Pure Water Temple”) is one of the most celebrated temples of Japan. Certain parts of the temple were under construction during our visit there, but not overwhelming impact. Later in the decade, the main hall will also undergo renovation which can be expected to have a bigger impact on a visit.

We also got some Japanese good luck charms, omamori also known as お守り. There are a wide variety of omamori for the young to the old. Blessings to be with people who carries them around. We also saw many Japanese girls dressed up in their kimonos and going to the temple. So cute! Thereafter, we went around shopping near the streets of Kiyomizu Temple and tried out their specialties Matcha cream puff! So good!

Traveling is all about eating and more eating! Today we are served with Tempura feast! Both rice and noodles were served, with a plate of ebi, chicken and fish tempura.

Proceeding to take on Japan JR Shinkansen Bullet Train to Osaka, traveling at the maximum speeds of 240–320 km/h. Both daddy and I was Vicks fanatic and was applying it while on the train ride! Hahaha! Mentholatum is best!

1922359_10152030647072746_660507885_nWe reached our destination within 15 minutes! The weather in Osaka was fantastic! It was at about 16 degree Celsius, grab-a-jacket-and-go kind of weather! I like! 🙂 It was easier for us without the thick jackets and long john, wearing them for days sometimes feels like a chore! We alighted at our first station at Osaka Castle Park also know as 大阪城公園, it is a public urban park with many locals doing their usual workout routine. Love the weather and people around. Moreover, in Spring this will be one of the best place to view cherry blossom and plum blossom! Look at the bald trees here, within a month they will bloom into blossoms!

1796604_10152030659102746_674152589_n1653619_10152030647407746_1881489_nTAKOPACHI! Just queue and eat only! I really like their pull out store from the mini van. So cute! Japanese are always the best at innovation!
1958223_10152030659992746_1947654281_n 1972257_10152030649622746_1459468959_n1921895_10152030660242746_780519391_nYay! It’s shopping time! We went to Shinsaibashi, the main shopping area of Osaka. Shinsaibashi is famous for its covered shopping street. We went insane with the amount of cosmetics, collagen powder, supplements and creams available in stores! Those Japanese girls are so well-groomed and health conscious. Crossing to Dotonbori, a popular tourist destination, it is famous for its giant crab and other restaurants. We combed Daiso, with so many “special” products” not available in Singapore retailing at $1.20 only! Buy buy buy!

1900158_10152030660872746_1009276851_n1621864_10152030661102746_992617672_n1655860_10152030661042746_51473235_n1979553_10152030661297746_575379577_nそれは食べる時間です! After the crazy shopping along the streets, we came by dinner with our long await Shabu-Shabu dinner and Kobe Beef.

What’s so special about Kobe Beef?

Kobe beef is considered by many to be the best form of beef available in the world, although it is prohibitively expensive and importation from Japan is virtually impossible. Therefore, you will never get to taste Kobe Beef in any part of the world expect in Japan! Gourmet chefs prize Kobe beef for its tenderness, flavor and amount of intramuscular fat, called marbling. Heavy marbling gives steak its satisfying mouth-feel.

I am absolutely in love! It was an expensive add-on for Kobe beef to be served on our dinner plates, but it was worth it. Each slice of this Kobe cost us $125, here’s 2 and that’s $250. The meat is so tender and it practically melt in your mouth. Awww…Delicious! Grilling it brings the best out of Kobe beef, as we can taste the meat directly instead of heavy cooking or ingredients-adding.
